About Walla Walla, Touchet and the surrounding areas:
Walla Walla is located in southeastern Washington and has a population of approximately 35,000. Touchet is located in the Walla Walla Valley and 15 miles west of Walla Walla on Highway 12. The Tri-Cities (Richland, Pasco and Kennewick) and their booming economies are only 50 miles away from Walla Walla, and 35 from Touchet. Walla Walla is home to Whitman College, Walla Walla University, and Walla Walla Community College. Outdoor recreational opportunities are plentiful, with the Columbia and Snake rivers within an hour drive, as are the Blue Mountains. Walla Walla and Touchet are only 4 1/2 hours from Seattle and 4 hours from Portland, OR, by car, with daily flights from the Walla Walla and Tri-Cities Regional Airports. Spokane, WA and Washington State University in Pullman, WA, are only 2 hours away by car.
The Walla Walla Valley is also the home to over 70 wineries. In the past two decades the Valley has seen a tremendous growth in its wine industry, increasing from a handful of wineries to today's 70+ and growing. It is said that the wineries in the Walla Walla Valley produce some of the finest American wines, and is quickly becoming a destination for wine connoisseurs from around world. Many of the wineries have received top scores from respected wine publications such as Wine Spectator, Wine Advocate and Wine and Spirits magazines. Some of the more notable and famous wineries are L'Ecole 41, Woodward Canyon and Leonetti Cellars, each being some of the first in the Valley in the 1970s and 1980s.
Additionally, Walla Walla is home to the world famous Walla Walla Sweet Onion, and a historic agricultural community. Not to mention the location of some of the earliest settlements in this part of United States. Fort Walla Walla and the Whitman Mission are two popular historic sites.
